On 3rd November, University of Information Technology and Communications (Thai Nguyen University) coordinated with Feng Chia University (Taiwan) to hold the opening of "Scientific Conference with international factors in GIS and high-tech in 2014". Attending were Mr. Nhu Van Tam, November, Mr. Nhu Van Tam, Member of Provincial Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee, leadership of Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Science and Technology, leadership Thai Nguyen University, Feng Chia University, and Vietnamese and foreign researchers and scientists.

Geographic Information System (GIS) is an information system designed to collect, update, store, integrate, process, research, analyze and display all types of geographic data. In Vietnam, many software products and applications of GIS technology have been available in the areas of life such as planning agriculture and forestry, dealing with climate change, urban planning and managing, tourist guiding, etc. Workshop is a forum for Vietnamese and foreign scientists to share researching experiences and technology deployment, seek opportunities for cooperation and learning, also to be a premise of construction, research and application of GIS technology in some areas of life in Thai Nguyen such as tourist guide, management and interaction systems in smart traffic, management of public works, etc.

 

On behalf of the provincial leadership, Mr. Nhu Van Tam delivered a speech to thank the attention and support of the delegates and scientists to the conference, and expects the scientific researchers to actively discuss, exchange, offer solutions, technology applications which have practical value in order to promote the potential and advantages of Thai Nguyen province in particular and the country in general.

 

The workshop program consists of one general meeting, 8 specific sessions which focus on four main topics: GIS and remote sensing; biomedical engineering; climate change adaptation; agro-forestry sustainable development, and information technology and communications. The conference will end on 4th November 2014.

 

On this occasion, leaders of the University of Information Technology and Communications has announced the decision to establish a GIS Research Center at Thai Nguyen University. The establishment of the Center will bring national and regional researches and applications in terms of GIS technology; contribute to the development of Thai Nguyen University into a Training and Researching Center of the midlands and mountains in the north.
