From June 10th to 17th, the Ministry of Education and Training organized a national athletics and swimming tournament. In which, the national swimming tournament for high school students lasts from June 10 to 13 in Da Nang; the athletics tournament lasts from June 12 to 17 in Thua Thien Hue.

Over 1,400 athletes and coaches belonging to 29 Departments of Education and Training participate in the event. Thai Nguyen has 12 athletes participating in the athletics tournament and 6 athletes participating in the swimming tournament.

At the end of the swimming tournament, Thai Nguyen has athlete Nguyen Uyen Nhi, class 11A8, Luong Ngoc Quyen High School wining a bronze medal in the women's 200 m freestyle swimming.

At the launching ceremony of the movement to learn to swim safely, prevent drowning and opening ceremony of the national swimming tournament for high school students in 2022, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Ngo Thi Minh said: In our country, about 2,000 children die from drowning on average each year. This is the highest rate compared to Southeast Asia countries and 8 times higher than developed countries. In the first 5 months of 2022, there were 38 drowning cases which killed 113 children and students. Deputy Minister Ngo Thi Minh suggested that the Departments of Education and Training and educational institutions further promote drowning prevention and control and the swimming teaching movement, attracting the attention and responsibility of the whole society for health and life safety for the children.

Regarding the athletics tournament, two athletes of Nguyen Chi Thanh, class 5B, Cao Ngan Primary School (Thai Nguyen City) won a bronze medal in the 60 m race; Vo Duong Quynh, class 8B, Phan Me Secondary School (Phu Luong) won a silver medal in the women’s high jump content. The athletics tournament lasts until June 17.
